Based on the Unmuzzle Your Power Animal™ self-regulation program, emotional release parties are guided, 2-hour journeys where participants experience awareness exercises, breathwork, bioenergetic exercises, physical exercises, restorative yoga, and a sound bath meditation in a fun, communal, and musically driven setting.
Created and organized by FirstMemory, these events aim to educate and empower communities through what we consider one of the most essential skills to have as a human being: nervous system regulation.

Self-regulation is the ability to manage our thoughts, emotions, behaviors, and impulses to lead our lives consciously. It involves modulating our nervous system to maintain control of our physiology rather than being controlled by it. It is crucial for promoting resilience and well-being.

The root word of "emotion" comes from the Latin "emovere," which means "to move out." Emotions are meant to inform us and spur us into action but are not meant to be repressed or held inside. Physiologically, the chemicals released in the body to create the sensations we know as emotions only last about 90 seconds. However, without the proper tools to process them, these emotional states can be re-triggered in the body indefinitely, leading to many undesired results, including mental and physical illness. Emotional release practice involves developing a deep awareness of our emotions, being informed by them, and then allowing them to be expressed in a healthy way. In the process, we heal and transform ourselves.

Emotional release parties start with an awareness practice so participants can connect with their current emotional state. This is followed by 15 minutes of breathwork to center and ground everyone together. We then transition into the Water movement, where bioenergetic release exercises facilitate emotional catharsis and free expression. Increasing the intensity, we follow this with the Fire movement, incorporating full-body exercises to ignite energy and vitality. Gradually calming the body, we move into the Air movement, featuring a restorative yoga flow for relaxation and rejuvenation. Finally, we conclude the 2-hour session with the Earth movement, guiding participants through a shamanic meditation during a sound bath for grounding and integration.
A downregulation area will be available for anyone needing support from a trauma-informed body and energy practitioners.

Live drummers, sound therapists, and an electronic music artist create a hypnotic atmosphere, enhancing the sense of unity and connection. Different guides lead each element, offering diverse perspectives and expertise, enriching the communal experience, and fostering inclusivity. Local vendors and businesses all play a crucial role in developing this community.

Emotional release parties focus on the transformative potential of communal healing through self-regulation practices. Participants can expect emotional release and catharsis, connection with the elements of nature and community, and physical and mental rejuvenation. We encourage individuals from all demographics to join the movement and experience transformation through self-expression and communal healing.

Please wear something comfortable that you can move and sweat in. Feel free to express yourself! We strongly encourage you to celebrate and represent your favorite spirit animal. A non-spillable water bottle, yoga mat, and towel are recommended. Bring a swimsuit if you would like to experience a cold plunge. All fitness levels are welcome.
